Farewell - the poem written by amazing

I shall enshrine you within my mind
Exactly as you are, standing in this glade,
Searching my face with your hauntingly lovely eyes
Half-filled with tears.

I want you to smile, wish you would smile ...
Please, will you smile for me once more, my love?
But you press your lips together
And your chin trembles
And your tears overflow,
Etching your cheeks with delicate lines of silver.

How can I offer reassurances,
Promise to return to you,
When my own heart is plagued with doubt?
How can I say the words you want to hear:
That we will not be forever separate,
That no black fate awaits me far from home,
That one day I shall return to this place
And hold you in my arms again?

Oh, how I long to say those things and more,
To end your tears, erase your fears,
That I may see your captivating smile.
But I would never lie to you, my love,
Not though my heart is suddenly overwhelmed
With a terrible and unrelenting certainty:

Nevermore shall I look upon your face.

The wind plays gently through your hair,
Lifting strands into the dappled light
As you turn from me
And walk away.
